Part III - Define Joke

(Note: spontaneous response to to comment about whether I could take a joke or not on the Jersey Devil BBS circa 1987)

Something I don't get or you can't take?

Something I don't recognize or you can't take.

Something some of us can't take.

Something one of us doesn't recognize -- Just kidding, if I wasn't, I would have said "you"!

Something intended to evoke a "mental suprise" and so cause us to temporally "forget ourselves".

Something intended to create a "mental surprise" and and evoke temporary amnesia.

Something God invented to remind us not to take life seriously.

Something invented to remind us not to take ourselves seriously.

Somethtin God invented to remind us not to take life or ourselves too seriously.

A reminder that life is not to be taken too seriously.

Something that goes against the established "mental grain" of ones mind

Something intended to evoke the seconded greatest form of "self-forgetting".

Something that runs conter to the normal or conditioned process of thought and so brings the mind to a momentarily stop.

Something intended to bring about momentary enlightenment.

Something that runs counter to our normal "train of thought" and caused or mind to momentarily "jump its tracks".

Something that cause our minds to slip a gear or jump its traces.

Something that suprises us and knocks us out of our normal mental set.

Something intended to bring about a temporary recognition of the ultimate rediculousness of our present condition.

Something constructed to create a "mental suprise", or startle us mentally, and give us a momentary taste of absolute self-abandonment and freedom.

Something intended to catch us "mentally of guard" and so temporarily "breach the walls" of self-consciousness.

Something intended to "startle" us out of "habitual mental sets" and cause a momentarily recollection (re-collect-ion) of the pure joy associated with "self-abandonment".

Something that rolls out the red carpet and then pulls it out form under us.

Something that cause us to recognize the ultimate silliness of our circumstance.

Something that causes a "mental flip or reversal"in the line of thought we had

been traveling down.

Something intended to bring the cognitive process of rational thought to a temporary stop.
