Ship and Rudder
6.
An uncontrolled mind may be likened to a ship's rudder released by its master. No longer subject to the master's hand, the rudder would quite naturally begin to move. Not knowing the true state of affairs -- that it is the wind, through the waves, that actually moves the rudder -- one might wrongly conclude that the rudder itself was alive. How to control such a wayward rudder would naturally follow as a major problem. Its resolution would not, however, lie in "altering" the rudder; but rather in realizing its true nature, and simply resting ones hand to the tiller.
